October

With the children back at school and the cooler autumn air arriving, many of us are already thinking about our next holiday, even though summer has only just ended. Google searches for “hot places in October” have increased by 9900% in the past week alone. Wizz Air has highlighted some of the warm and affordable European destinations to visit in October.

Cyprus

Cyprus is located in the Mediterranean Sea, which gives the island a hot climate. In October, the weather remains warm and sunny, with daily temperatures reaching as high as 28°C. As summer moves further away, hotel prices begin to fall. This makes Cyprus a warmer and more affordable destination to visit.

If you are looking for a holiday where you can explore plenty of sights while discovering history and culture, Cyprus in October is an excellent choice. Take a walk along the Aphrodite Nature Trail and visit Aphrodite’s Rock and the remains of the temple built in honour of Aphrodite. You will also find fewer visitors than during the height of summer. October is a great time to explore Cyprus because the weather is warm without being too hot, making it easier to get around.

Tenerife

Tenerife is the largest and hottest of the Canary Islands. It has a subtropical climate, with temperatures staying above 20°C throughout the year, even during winter. There is also a 63% chance of enjoying a beautiful sunny day. The average daily temperature is 25°C, while the sea can reach a pleasant 24°C.

Tenerife is the warmest island in the Canaries. It also offers great value for money, as affordable trips are easy to find. In addition, Tenerife has one of the best hotel industries, making the island suitable for all types of travellers. Whether you want to relax on black volcanic sand beaches, enjoy snorkelling or scuba diving, or have a meal at one of the many restaurants, Tenerife is an ideal destination for some autumn sunshine.

Rome

October is one of the best times to visit Rome for several reasons. The weather is pleasant and comfortable, which is ideal for all the walking you will do while exploring the city. Although October is still considered part of the high season, Rome is much quieter than it is during July and August. This means you are less likely to face long queues at the most popular attractions.

Rome is also a good holiday destination if you are trying to keep costs down. Many attractions are free or very inexpensive to visit. Popular places such as the Trevi Fountain and Villa Borghese, a former heart-shaped vineyard, can be visited for free in October. Flights to Rome are also much cheaper during this month.

Budapest

The Hungarian capital is an excellent choice for an autumn city break, with temperatures usually reaching around 19°C and up to 10 hours of sunshine each day. A weekend getaway in Budapest can cost as little as £60 per person, making it a very affordable option. Flights to Budapest are also inexpensive, making the city, often known as “the Paris of the East”, well worth a visit.

If the weather in Budapest changes, which can happen often as Mother Nature is unpredictable, you can warm up by visiting one of the city’s many thermal baths. Hungary is famous for its thermal waters and spa culture. The thermal water in Budapest has an average temperature of around 75°C and contains high levels of calcium, magnesium and hydrogen carbonate. These minerals can help with joint pain and improve blood circulation.
